在英国有一个贫穷的农家男孩和一个皇室贵族的女孩堕入爱河。不幸的是这件事遭到女孩的爸爸反对。 有一天，男孩得知女孩患了绝症，只好去请求女孩的爸爸，希望能见女孩一面。结果遭到拒绝。女孩的妈妈被男孩的真诚所感动，愿意偷偷地替男孩送信。但是他们都知道，第一个看到这封信的人，就是女孩的父亲。所以他们约定女孩隔行阅读，她的父亲按常理循序阅读这封信。父亲看完信后很高兴，主动把信给女儿看。女儿读完后知道男孩仍然爱她，也很高兴。
